Abstract: Dr. Sascha Brune, GFZ Helmholtz-Zentrum Potsdam:

Continental Rift Dynamics Across The Scales: Understanding Observations Through
Geodynamic Modelling

Rifts provide a unique window into the geodynamic system of our planet and the processes that shape the surface of the Earth.
In this talk I will address geodynamic problems concerning the kinematic and structural evolution of continental rift systems using simple analytical and complex
numerical modelling techniques. The scales of these problems range from the size of tectonic plates (3000 kilometres) and plate boundaries (100 kilometres) to ductile shear zones of few centimetres.
